Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

“I can’t think of anything more customer-hostile than locking a phone to a particular carrier. It would be like having cars that only work on certain toll roads. No one would put up with that, and we shouldn’t put up with locked phones.” -Kyle Wiens, CEO of the right-to-repair advocacy group iFixit
A: In 2015, Google released a new update for all Android devices called the Factory Reset Protection, or Google account lock. It exists as a precaution to prevent sensitive information from falling into the wrong hands when lost or stolen. In the case of users who lost access to their accounts for various reasons, users who bought or were gifted a second hand phone, or simple forgetfulness, this proves to be a common problem. When attempting to reset a device, a prompt will appear to verify your account, and there will be no way to access the device if this is not fulfilled. The solution is to remove it entirely.

There are a multitude of reasons why a person will come to us for assistance. - Resellers are able to purchase locked phones at a considerably lower price than unlocked phones. - When in less demand to be reused, locked devices are more likely to end up contributing to the nation’s growing E-waste problem. As environmental activists, we feel that by helping to expand the life of devices we are doing our part to keep unnecessary waste from landfills. We would rather see someone pay a fraction of the price for a simple fix as opposed to buying an entirely new phone.
Hello UnlockJunky Fam,
After a decade of serving you all, we’re finally saying goodbye. This was an incredibly hard decision, this company and all of you have become a big part of my and Jays life.
But I believe it’s time to close this chapter and step into something new.
I’ve loved unlocking for you. We’ve done incredible work over the years, helping so many people, unlocking hundreds of thousands of devices, serving tens of thousands of customers, and earning hundreds of 5-star reviews. We’ve even had the opportunity to work with large organizations like Goodwill and Covanta Energy.
But I find myself ready for what’s next. And this next chapter will require all of my energy and attention. It wouldn’t be fair to you to split my focus, you deserve the same level of service, reliability, and trust that this company was built on. I refuse to compromise that by trying to juggle two businesses.
If you’re interested in learning how to start your own remote unlock service like this—or if you’re interested in purchasing the Unlockjunky domain and brand—email me at [email protected]
It’s been an incredible ride, and I’ll truly miss you all.
Until next time,
Marcus Favors
